Puyol, best athlete of 2010 Catalan

The ship's captain will be rewarded in the 14th edition of the Festa de l'Esport Català, December 16

Carles Puyol, Captain of FC Barcelona, was elected yesterday as the best athlete Catalan 2010 and will be honored at the 14th edition of the Festa de l'Esport Català be held on 16 December in the Montjuïc INEF organized jointly by the Unió de Federacions (UFEC) and SPORT. The award for best male athlete revelation was for the rider Marc Marquez, who at 17 became champion of the world of motorcycling in the displacement of 125 cc. in a brilliant season in which he won 10 of the 16 races. The Blaugrana rounded off a magical year with a prestigious victory against Los Angeles Lakers, NBA champions, in a pulsating match 'friendly' match at the Palau Sant Jordi.

David Barrufet, who retired at the end of last season, has been recognized for his sports career with the award for Esperit Esportiu. Barrufet played handball for 23 years and as captain of the club has won a total of 70 titles. Twice elected best goalkeeper in the world, has played 280 games with the Spanish team, with whom he has been world champion, runner-up in Europe and double Olympic medalist. Jordi Vidal, hockey referee, who has just retired after 38 active years and 1,300 games leading national and international competitions, has been awarded the prize for Seny Esportiu, while former player Andreu Gimeno, a pioneer of the sport in Catalonia, has received the Premi Llegendari. Finalmentea Catalan Federation of Volleyball has been recognized for its management, while the CD Terrassa Hockey clubs and CET (Hiking), will be honored to celebrate the centenary of its founding.
