After the joy, the Copa Catalunya

Jordi Clos

48 hours after the majestic 5-0 win against Madrid, Barçanow play for the Copa Catalunya. It’s a three-way tournament against Espanyol and Hospitalet, in Sabadell. Guardiola has named 22 players, 15 from the B team.

These are obviously happy times for all at Barça, and now comes the chance to claim another title. This is the Copa Catalunya, and actually the final of the 2009/10 edition, which was postponed last season due to a lack of free dates. There is also a twist, because it will be played three-way, between Barça, Espanyol and Hospitalet.

Guardiola has never won this trophy, but will be resting the eleven starters from the clásico. Bit there are still seven first team members to choose from, not counting the injured Milito). Fifteen reserves complete the squad.

Espanyol first
2010-11-29_PARTIDO_07.JPGBarça will start against Espanyol, who will already have faced Hospitalet. That will make the Nova Creu Alta the venue for the first derby of the season. The blue and whites are also having a great season, fourth at the moment, and will also rest several key players in order to concentrate on their European bid. Mauricio Pochettino has said he’ll take 14 first team players and 8 from the B.

Then Hospitalet
The ‘second half’ will be against a different team, in theory the minnow. L’Hospitalet are now in Division 2B and after losing last week to Castelló, have dropped to fifteenth. They are managed by Miguel Álvarez, and the squad includes FCB products such as Óscar Álvarez and Toni Velamazán.
