19-2 in la Liga

Roger Bogunyà

Under Josep Guardiola, Barça have made a habit of big scores against Seville, having chalked up 19 goals in the five La Liga games between them since Pep took over, with just two goals conceded.

Guardiola seems to know just how to play Seville and his team have posted a big score in all but one of the league games he’s taken them into, as well as keeping a clean sheet in four of the games. Below are the details of those wins:

29 November 2008 (0-3): The team began a run of tough games with a clear win at the Sanchez Pijuan thanks to goals from Eto’o and Messi (2) that allowed them to stretch their lead at the top of the table.

22 April 2009 (4-0): Another big score-one of many that season- as the campaign drew to an end. Javi Varas was again in goals for Seville and Messi missed the game with Iniesta, Eto’o, Xavi and Henry on target.

16 January 2010 (4-0): Just three days after the Andalucian team had knocked Barça out of the Cup, Guardiola’s men recorded another four goal thrashing, thanks to an Escude own goal, two from Messi and one more from Pedro.

2010-05-08_PARTIDO_05.JPG8 May 2010 (2-3): The only time Seville have managed to beat Valdes in the last three years of league games. With both teams needing the win as the season reached its climax, Barça raced to a 0-3 lead thanks to goals from Messi, Bojan and Pedro before their hosts put on a mini fightback that proved to be not quite enough.

30 October 2010 (5-0): It looked like the game was set for yet another 4-0 result before Villa popped up for his second of the game right on full time to make it five in a match in which Barça had produced some of their best football of the season.
